We did it... we sold our first home! We left the only home the boys have ever known and the only home Gillian has known with us as her family. We had amazing neighbors that became more than neighbors, they were our friends. Our children played all summer together. We ran to their basements when big storms came through. They gave us outgrown clothing and let us borrow any and every tool imaginable. We are starting a new chapter in our lives filled with lots of new memories. Grant is the only one that doesn't seem so sure of this new chapter. He isn't one to embrace change, but we keep telling him that he will like the new house, and he can plant a new garden next spring.
Well, with this new change we have a slight detour. We have to live in a duplex until the new home is ready. We feel very blessed to have found a nice, warm place to live while we wait. When things feel tight, and the kids are fighting, and I have to crawl over Gerald to get out of bed, we just remind ourselves that we are BLESSED! We have a roof, warm home during a very cold fall, and good health!! Thank you, Jesus!!
I thought you might like to see what our duplex living is like! I took these pics yesterday evening after the kids made tents with blankets in the living room after dinner. Little messes look like HUGE messes here! We are having to relax a little!! It is good for us!

Dining room/Office/Kitchen.. too bad you can't see the vinyl table cloth we are using as a rug to keep the stains out of the carpet under the table! It is lovely!! :)
This is our laundry chute! We throw our dirty clothes off the second story half wall and they land in the entrance, just a few feet from the laundry room! Our new house will not have this great amenity! Bummer!
We went for a visit to the new home yesterday afternoon.
The boys enjoyed running around the dirt backyard where the tire tracks went through.

Wow, that reminds me of us years ago. We stayed in a very tiny house while our current house was being built. We had three kids at the time and there were only two bedrooms. The kids slept together in a bunk bed with a full size on bottom and twin on top. When the new house was finished and we moved in, they each had their own room. I thought they would be thrilled to get away from each other, but for the first year at least, they all slept in one room together. I guess they got used to that closeness and it was a comfort.
Your new house certainly looks beautiful. You'll have to give us all a virtual blog tour when you get moved in.

Your perspective and attitude is always refreshing! We lived in a duplex when my house burned down my senior year of HS and it is some of my favorite family memories!

I've been meaning to comment on this post for a few days now because it is so witty! I especially love your "laundry chute." Regardless, your grateful perspective is always refreshing...and remember it could be worse...you could be stuck in an apartment with 3 kids. Thank goodness for your duplex!
